Bowen Therapy
Gentle Soft Tissue Healing
Bowen Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive soft tissue technique that prompts the body to reset, repair, and rebalance itself. At Townsend Naturopathic, Dr. Kim uses Bowen as part of an integrative approach to pain, stress, and chronic illness.

OVERVIEW
Bowen Therapy at Townsend Naturopathic
Bowen Therapy is a pain management practice that assists with acute pain and loss of mobility and places a strong emphasis on healing. The Bowen technique uses gentle hand movements on specified points to massage the muscles, nerves, tendons and fascia to aid in the body’s self healing process. The Method
How a Bowen Treatment Works
A Bowen treatment is performed with the patient lying comfortably on a treatment table. Dr. Kim applies a series of gentle rolling moves across specific muscle groups — with deliberate pauses of two to five minutes between sequences. These pauses are a defining feature of Bowen, giving the nervous system time to integrate the information and begin the healing response.
Many patients experience profound relaxation during and after treatment — some report relief after just one or two sessions, while chronic conditions may require a short series of treatments. Bowen works particularly well in combination with other naturopathic therapies and is safe for patients of all ages, including children and the elderly.

What to Expect
Your Bowen Therapy Experience
Bowen Therapy is one of the gentlest therapies available — making it an excellent option for patients who are too sensitive or fragile for more vigorous manual treatments, as well as for those who simply prefer a lighter touch. The experience is deeply relaxing, and many patients find it profoundly calming for the nervous system.
Following treatment, light walking is encouraged, but strenuous activity and other manual therapies should be avoided for 24 to 48 hours after a session to allow the Bowen response to fully develop.
